Function-by-Function Groom Outfit Breakdown
Mehndi: Keep It Relaxed, Make It Memorable
The mehndi is the most festive, colourful function of the wedding. The bride is often in a bright yellow, green, or orange jora — and the groom should echo that energy without stealing her spotlight.
What to wear:
- Kurta shalwar is the standard and perfectly appropriate — opt for a well-fitted, embroidered or printed kurta in cotton or lawn
- Casual shalwar kameez with light embellishment works beautifully
- Colours: mustard yellow, mint green, peach, pale orange — coordinate loosely with the bride’s palette
- Avoid anything too formal or heavily embroidered; save that for barat
- A waistcoat (wasket) over a plain kameez adds a polished touch without overdressing
Shoes: Khussa or embroidered mules work perfectly at mehndi. Comfortable is key — there will be dancing.
