In Pakistani wedding culture, the saas (mother-in-law) and bahu (daughter-in-law/bride) are not just family — they are a visual pair. The barat and valima functions in particular are structured around them appearing together. Family photographs almost always include them side by side. The morning-after rituals, the dawat-e-walima, the rukhsati — at every turn, these two women are photographed together and seen together by guests.
