Manchester’s Pakistani and South Asian diaspora is one of the largest and most established in the UK. It’s worth understanding the geography before talking about where to shop.
Rusholme (The “Curry Mile”)
Rusholme is the neighbourhood most people think of first. The stretch of Wilmslow Road known as the Curry Mile is internationally famous for its South Asian restaurants, and the area has a lively, colourful street culture that reflects generations of Pakistani and South Asian settlement. There are shops selling South Asian clothing, fabrics, and accessories — but Rusholme is primarily known for food, not fashion. The clothing offer here is modest and casual-leaning.
Longsight
Longsight is one of Manchester’s most significant Pakistani neighbourhoods and arguably the better shopping destination for South Asian clothes in the city. Dickenson Road and the surrounding streets have a cluster of Pakistani clothing shops, fabric merchants, and salons. You’ll find shalwar kameez, lawn collections, and semi-formal party wear here. The community is tight-knit and the shops reflect that — they stock what their customers actually wear and need for everyday and festive occasions.
Cheetham Hill (North Manchester)
Cheetham Hill has a long history as a South Asian shopping destination. The Cheetham Hill Road and surrounding streets have shops catering to South Asian communities, including Pakistani families. The offer here leans toward fabric, tailoring, and affordable fashion rather than designer bridal couture.
Levenshulme and Fallowfield
Both areas have growing Pakistani and South Asian populations, particularly among students and younger professionals. The shopping on Stockport Road in Levenshulme includes some South Asian clothing shops, and the area is known for its community feel. Fallowfield, with its large student population, has occasional pop-up Pakistani fashion events.
Stretford and Old Trafford
Old Trafford (the area, not the stadium) has a significant Pakistani population. There are South Asian grocery shops and some clothing retailers here, though the fashion scene is less concentrated than in Longsight or Rusholme.
