New York’s Pakistani Community: Who’s Shopping Where
New York and the surrounding tri-state area has one of the largest Pakistani diaspora communities in the USA. The key hubs:
- Jackson Heights, Queens (New York City): The original South Asian commercial corridor. Little India bleeds into Little Pakistan along 74th Street and into the surrounding blocks. This is where most Pakistani-Americans in NYC go for everything from mithai to shalwar kameez.
- Jersey City, New Jersey: A significant Pakistani Muslim community, particularly around Journal Square. Several South Asian boutiques and clothing importers operate here.
- Edison and Iselin, New Jersey: Sometimes called “Little India” but equally home to Pakistani families. Oak Tree Road is the main commercial strip, with multiple South Asian clothing and bridal stores.
- Hicksville and Westbury, Long Island: A growing South Asian community with a handful of boutiques serving Pakistani families.
These are real communities with real demand for Pakistani fashion. The boutiques exist because people want them. The question is whether what these boutiques stock matches what you’re actually looking for.
