Why Brampton and Mississauga Are the GTA’s Pakistani Fashion Centre
The numbers tell the story. Brampton has become one of Canada’s most diverse cities by any measure, and its South Asian community — including a very large Pakistani population — has transformed the city’s commercial fabric. Mississauga, adjacent and connected, has seen a parallel transformation, particularly along the Dixie Road and Hurontario corridors.
The result is a concentration of Pakistani fashion retail that simply doesn’t exist anywhere else in Canada at this density:
- Dixie Road, Mississauga — the main strip, running roughly between Burnhamthorpe Road and Dundas Street East. Multiple South Asian boutiques, fabric stores, jewellers, and tailors sit within walking distance of each other.
- Hurontario Street — extends the commercial corridor north, with more boutiques and South Asian businesses.
- Queen Street East, Brampton — Brampton’s primary South Asian commercial strip. Newer boutiques, rapidly growing.
- Bramalea City Centre area — another cluster of South Asian retailers serving Brampton’s east end.
This is genuinely impressive compared to other Canadian cities. If you’re in Calgary, Edmonton, or Ottawa and want Pakistani fashion, you’re mostly ordering online. In Brampton and Mississauga, you can walk into a boutique, feel the fabric, and talk to someone who understands exactly what a mehndi jora should look like.
